How to Best Explore the Rockland Center For the Arts

RoCA Pin 1

Where is the Rockland Center for the Arts located?

One of my favorite things to do is visit Art Galleries, Art Museums, and Art Centers. My visit to Rockland Center for the Arts did not disappoint. The Art Center is located in West Nyack, NY and is conveniently located near the Tappan Zee Bridge, but feels like it is located a million miles away from the city.

According to their website:
“RoCA is a multi-arts center dedicated to creating and promoting art through its School for the Arts, exhibitions, workshops, literary and performing arts events, Summer Arts Day Camp and outreach programs.

Originally known as the Rockland Foundation, RoCA was founded in 1947 by a group of renowned artists, including Aaron Copland,            Paulette Goddard, Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya, Mexwell Anderson and Helen Hayes. Their intention was to creat a new cultural center,        separate from New York City, taking advantage of the immense creative talent that had recently migrated to the region.”

Begin Exploring the Rockland Center for the Arts at the Main Gallery Building

The Center takes great pride in offering its patrons a wonderful experience, together with offering a great collection of artwork for all to see. The exhibits begin immediately at the front door into the front hallway and then directly into the dedicated Gallery Space.

The first photograph (below) shows a display made entirely of colored pencils. It was amazing to look at it up close. It was part of the exhibit titled: “Fragments of Imagination: A Vignette of RePsychling” by Mark Khaisman, Will Kurtz, Sui Park and Federico Uribe. This exhibit is on view through April 23, 2017.

The remaining two photographs (below) show several exhibits in the Main Gallery Room. These were part of the exhibit titled: “Activism in Art: Art Changes Things” By Vera Aronow, Michale Fischerkeller, Roger Grange, Simone Kestelman, Lisa Levart, Francesco Mastalia, Sarah Mondale, Wilfredo Morel, Jessica Putnam Philips, Loren Schwerd and Maria Silverstein. This exhibit is also on view through April 23, 2017.

My favorite exhibit is titled: “Organic” by Francesco Mastalia and is a collection of photographs and stories about local farmers.

Next, Walk Outside of the Rockland Center for the Arts to the Sculpture Park

As can be seen, I was lucky enough to have an absolutely perfect day for a walk in the “Catherine Konner Sculpture Park”. Not only is the Sculpture Park tranquil, but when combined with the sculptures, is incredible.

According to their website: “The Sculpture Park is the only outdoor site in Rockland County that hosts rotating exhibits of sculpture.”

Don’t Forget to Follow the Sculpture Park to the Front of the Property

Furthermore, on the day of my visit, I met the artist, Andre Voumard. The Sculpture Park showcases many of his mobiles. It was an honor to speak with him, coupled with, viewing his work up close. Absolutely amazing!
